There have already been efforts by Bluestacks to make android apps available on desktops but it suffered substantial performance issues. The user is supposed to install software from the Bluestacks web site for the apps to function on windows platform. It acts much like Wine, which is installed in Ubuntu to support windows application. However, the performance of the apps has not been very encouraging. Even in native state, lags and crashes were frequent and affected the performance of the apps to a great degree. Another factor that affected its agility was its limited web based functionality. As apps are crafted considering mobility as a key factor, real-time web based feature are a necessity to make them useful on desktops as well.

Meanwhile, Google has been working behind Chrome to boost its HTML5 capabilities. Pichai has been working in the chrome division and must have possibly witnessed/contributed to the HTML5 project. As chrome remains the most favorite browser amongst users, Google is all set to bridge the distance between chrome and Android with this critical and strategic step. Once done, User will be able to access playstore apps from their desktops itself. Even the game apps will feel native as the browser will have advanced HTML5 features. A user will also be able to start an app/game from a mobile device, pause it and access it in the desktop later on.
